Cabin
Zirconia, North Carolina

The cabin is situated high in the North Carolina mountains and surrounded by tulip poplars, oaks, sourwood and rhododendrons. In order to optimize the experience of the surrounding woodland, native plants were exclusively specified. A narrow path follows the topography of the site through new plantings of mountain laurel and leads to the dark brick entrance terrace. Elevated by three steps, this terrace provides a place to enjoy dramatic views of the distant landscape and is flanked by a small grove of sourwood trees. Virginia creeper climbs the concrete block retaining wall that leads to the guest room below.
