2008 AIA Competition first prize

This award-winning project was created as a model for healthy urbanism in downtown Raleigh. Building and landscape are designed as one interlocking, interdependent system. A tall stone wall marks the Peace Street entry.  Landscape steps alongside the wall lead through a serviceberry grove to the garden level. An outdoor exhibition space in front of the building is shaded by a row of London plane trees. Plants indigenous to the state of North Carolina are used throughout the design. The innovative parking garden made of porous paving  accommodates automobiles and reduces storm water runoff. The area also functions as open, green space for chapter and community events.
