House in Chatham
Chatham, New York

Modern art and sculpture are juxtaposed with landscape and architecture throughout this project. Views from the informal dining room focus on a stone sculpture designed by Iran do Espirito Santo. A Richard Long sculpture visible from the kitchen engages the wooded landscape beyond. The south side of the house opens to a sunny garden space bordered by a grove of aspens and a concrete retaining wall. A stainless steel water rill in front of the wall edges concrete pavers with thyme joints. The outdoor terrace leads to freestanding black stacked granite walls. A stainless steel stairway behind the granite walls leads to a negative edge black lap pool that reflects the sky.
